Virtue 04: Diligence Theme: The Consistency Loop

The Ant and
The Cricket

During the golden months of the dry season, the savannah was a symphony of life, but not everyone was listening to the same rhythm.

The Cricket spent his days as a lead performer, singing and dancing under the warm sun. Whenever he saw the Ants passing by, synchronized and struggling under heavy grains of maize, he would pause his song to laugh.

"Why do you operate with such heavy loads?" he chirped. "The sun is high, the resources are infinite, and the music is free. Come, join the dance!"

"The best time to plant a tree—or write a line of code—was twenty years ago. The second best time is right now."

The Lead Ant stopped only for a second. "The environment is shifting, Cricket. The Great Rains are coming. If we do not compile our resources now, our system will crash when the storms arrive."

The Cricket didn't understand. He ignored the warnings until the heavy clouds finally broke. When the Great Rains flooded the plains, the Cricket’s stage was washed away. Cold and hungry, he sought out the Ants’ nest.

The Ants were secure. Their storage was full and their nest was warm. They shared their food, but as the Cricket watched them, he realized a hard truth: while performance is beautiful, preparation is what ensures you are around to perform when the weather changes.
